About the Book

The 2nd Edition of Gregory Andrus' out-of-print first book - Portraits of the Jersey Shore: Everyone Has a Story, 2nd Edition is a beloved book throughout the Jersey Shore and beyond! Containing the over 100 original stories of the first edition, it also includes bonus new stories and even follow-up stories from some of the subjects interviewed in the first edition!

Each week Gregory Andrus goes to different shore towns along the Jersey coast and asks strangers to be interviewed. With three simple questions, hundreds of people have opened up and shared some of their most intimate, vulnerable stories of their lives. Typically the time together ends in an affirming hug, and always with Gregory training his camera on them for a portrait. Gregory has often said that he wants to use the words and photos of the subjects he meets to illuminate the image of God inherent in every person.

About the Author

Gregory Andrus overcame a decades-long battle with alcoholism and homelessness. When he was 28 years old he was shot in the back of the head as an innocent bystander caught in the middle of a police chase. After getting a second chance at life, he developed a deep faith in Jesus, quit drinking, and has devoted his life to sharing the hope he has from overcoming his circumstances with others he meets along his journey. He is now a husband and a father of two delightfully energetic and curious boys. He runs a locally prolific page on Facebook and Instagram where he shares street interviews of people he meets around the shore. When Gregory is not spending quality time with his family or conducting interviews, he can be found going for long walks with his beloved Golden Retriever, Blue, preferably at his favorite place in the world, the beach. You can contact him to speak at your organization, school, church, etc. through his email andrusgregory@gmail.com.

This book is very beautifully written. If you are a fan of Portraits of the Jersey Shore's Facebook page, you are familiar with the author's candor about himself and his own journey. If you aren't a fan, check it out! Gregory's own story serves as a warm, understanding, non-judgmental and caring backdrop to each of the stories portrayed by the beautiful portraits that he has taken to accompany them. It is easy to understand people's willingness to share with him.
Most of the "reading" that I do as I age is actually listening, but I could not resist buying this and Gregory's other books. I sat and went through this lovely book in one afternoon. I recommend this whole-heartedly, you will not regret this purchase.

I've haven't read quite half of the book yet but so far it is beautifully illistrated and written. I can't wait to finish! Thank you for the kind note signed in the book. I have had a heartbreaking year since January, but your words have giving me hope "my story" will change and things will be better for myself and loved ones.
