“The hardest moment of my life was when I lost half of my leg. It is my left one. I was on the back of a motorcycle, and we were hit by a car. I was 44 years old. I was in the hospital off and on after that for four-and-a-half years.
“But it wasn’t bad at all, because I have a positive attitude. I made jokes about it and cheered people up in the hospital. I just kept thinking ‘This is just one little thing compared to what could have happened.’ It doesn’t do no good to gripe about it. Things could always be worse. I could have lost both legs. I could have lost both arms. I could have lost my mind. I could have died. All I lost was a half a leg.
“I know I went through that to encourage people who go through hard things and don’t have the courage that I have. Every present moment is the happiest moment in my life. It is up to you to make your own happiness.”
